Bambi's 2nd Chance!

The 2021 Walkin' Pet Calendar Contest June winner is Bambi originally from Mexico but now lives in Ontario, Canada. We asked our all of our calendar contest winner's to answer some questions about their FURbabys and why they decided to adopt and help disabled animals, here are Bambi's rescue mom’s answers!

Tell Us About Bambi!

Bambi was abandoned in the streets of Mexico with bilateral bone exposure, her wounds were infected, she was extremely malnutrished, full of flea and ticks, and in a lot of pain. Despite her condition I could tell she was a fighter, I could see how special of a dog she is. When a dog has been mistreated like Bambi had, people generally have to rebuild trust with the dog but Bambi showed love for everyone and was able to trust her rescuers implicitly.

While Bambi lived with Dora, she was always running around the house, she loved playing with the other dogs, and adored her human foster sister. They were best friends. Bambi is obsessed with Ecokind pet treats, loves yak cheese chews. And with any toy that makes noise.

As Bambi began to heal she doubled her weight and got much stronger. Dora got in contact with Paws R Us, Marlene and Dora are friends and Marlene helped to get a Walkin' Wheels dog wheelchair for Bambi and was instrumental in help Bambi find her forever home.

How have your dog's wheels helped their life?

Bambi's wheelchair has given her wings and independence, you can see her happiness when she is running around in her Walkin' Wheels.  It took her a bit of time to get used to them, originally she was a bit timid but now she has no fear and loves her chair.

What have you learned, living with a special needs pet?Brown double amputee dog in medium size dog wheelchair

I have learned that all animals just need a chance, they all deserve an opportunity to thrive even if they have a special need. In the end, Bambi is so happy, she does not even know she has a disability. She completely over came all the challenges life threw at her and she exceeded all of our expectaions as well!
Bambi is now in a place where she can run and play and is happy and making a lucky family happy as well.
Bambi was very loved by everyone she came in contact with in Maxico, she is very special and we will remember our time with her and are so grateful she has her forever family now.
